On May 19, 2022, I was arrested on a charge of Criminal Threats. Prior to this, I received a warning about the impending arrest from former Police Officer SGT Jonathan Byers, who sent me an Instagram friend request with the message “WERCOMING4U." This type of communication is often used by law enforcement when preparing for an arrest. Knowing some police officers, I suspected I was under investigation. SGT Byers’s Instagram profile featured him in a tactical vest and ballistic helmet alongside an SJPD armored truck. Following months of what I believed was harassment from my previous employer, I was arrested by a large number of officers from the San Jose Police Department (SJPD), most of whom were in civilian clothing and had distinctive long hair and beards. During the arrest, Byers tightened my handcuffs excessively, causing significant pain, and displayed noticeable emotional involvement in the case. Prior to my arrest, my small dachshund died unexpectedly, adding to the distress of the situation. It’s important to note that a warrant for my arrest had been issued about a month prior. After posting bail, I experienced continuous surveillance by SJPD, including vehicles speeding past my residence and following me closely wherever I went. There were multiple instances where attempts were made to crash into my wife’s car during her drives. On one occasion, my attorney, Nan Bucknell, had me visit her office only to inform me there were no updates on my case. While driving home after this brief meeting, I noticed a white Corvette tailing me. As I approached Blossom Hill Expressway, the Corvette abruptly moved into my lane at a high speed, prompting me to change lanes quickly to avoid a collision. This maneuver was reckless, as the vehicle aggressively navigated four lanes of traffic to exit. I later discovered that Geeno Gular, the Commander for the SJPD Violent Crimes Unit, lived just four houses away from my own. I have encountered him since then and have made a point to express my feelings toward him publicly.
